Theme Weekends 2009


April 3-5  Welcome - Opening week, welcome to the 2009 Lake Gaston Outdoor World season. Start the season with a bang. Come on down and greet your friends, unpack and enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset at the lake.

April 10-12  Happy Easter - Here comes the Easter Bunny.  Spring is in the air and Easter eggs are everywhere. There will be crafts, photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, Easter egg hunts, and lots of fun for all. “Bunny Hop” on down Saturday night for the first DJ dance of the season. Join us at the pavilion Sunday morning for an Easter Service. 

April 17-19  All Fishy - Pull out your rod and reels and reel in lots of excitement. There will be fishing contest for the entire family. Discover North Carolina fishing techniques from talented fishermen. Don’t feel like fishing, “fishy” crafts will be available.

April 24-26  Celebrate Nature (Earth Day and Arbor Day) - Join us for a dual weekend.  Show your love for nature by celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day in one great weekend.  We will have coloring contest, clean-up sessions and tree planting.  What a wonderful way to keep America beautiful.

May 1-3  Calling All Volunteers - It’s that time, annual volunteer weekend. Put on your gloves and roll-up your sleeves. It’s time to clean, clean, clean.  There are flowers to plant, chairs to clean, the pool to uncover and plenty for everyone to do.  We show our appreciation for your hard work with a “pig pickin” dinner.  Members don’t forget to bring a dessert to share.  Complete the night with relaxation at the DJ dance.

May 8-10  Honoring Mom - Celebrate mom with us.  We know how hard mom works and how much you love her.  Moms sit back and enjoy your weekend.  We will have crafts and mother/child activities. Enjoy a work free pancake breakfast Sunday morning.

May 15-17  Armed Forces Tribute To the Military - Take time to honor Americans serving in the five services—the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Forces and Coast Guard. Learn to fold the American flag, participate in a flag raising ceremony and enjoy crafts and activities honoring the Armed Forces. Don’t forget to enter the coloring contest, choosing a coloring sheet from one of the five services.

Every Saturday:  Ceramics, Hay ride, DJ Dance

Every Sunday Morning:  Worship Service, Pancake Breakfast

May 22-24  Memorial Day  Honoring Veterans - Summer kickoff with something for everyone.  Join us for our annual Memorial Day Ceremony and tree planting.  Enjoy crafts that show honor to our veterans. Its time for cook-outs, boat rides and fun in the water.   Officially begins the season with church services, hay rides, ceramics, pancake breakfast and DJ dance.

May 29-31  Flower Power - Reflect back to the ‘60’s.  Flowers, flowers, everywhere.  Spring is in the air and peace is here and there.  Come make hippie beads, tie-dyed shirts and flowers of course.  Join us for hula-hoop contest and best or “worst” from the ‘flower power’ era.  Karaoke time at the DJ dance.   

 

June 5-7  Best of Bingo - Bingo of all kinds will be on hand this weekend.  What’s your favorite?  Beach bingo, candy bingo, bag of chips bingo, kids only bingo, brown bag bingo; take your pick.  We will have BINGO for everyone.  Bingo, bingo, bingo.
 
June 12-14  A Day at the Lake - Kick off your shoes and spend a day in the sand.  All activities will take place at the beach area.  Enjoy canoe races, raft races, swimming races, volleyball, Frisbee, sand castle building, “buried alive”; lots of fun at the lake.  Bring a picnic lunch and stay awhile.

June 19-21  Father Knows Best and Swap Meet - Happy Father’s Day!  Fishing, ping pong , miniature golf, crafts, and much more just for  dad and the kids.  Dads eat free Sunday morning at the pancake breakfast.  Dads bring the family and come join us for our first swap meet.  Campers bring items that you would like to swap with others.  Kids this is a great time to “swap” video games or music, dad maybe you can get “new” fishing gear or camping tools, moms how about cooking utensils or beach wear, there will be something for everyone. Don’t forget the pets maybe an outgrown carrying case or doggy bed.  This will be a fun and useful event.  Join us.

June 26-28  Stay Safe - Safety is so important, especially this time of the year.  Participate in boat safety courses, water safety, fire safety, and stranger awareness. Kid ID kits will be available.

July 3-5  Celebrations - ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE- PLEASE DONATE - Prepare for a great Independence Day.  Red, White and Blue Galore; crafts, games, and of course our traditional bike parade.  Prepare a picnic, 4th of July style, and enter the picnic set-up contest on the beach.  Celebrate, decorate, and share special times with friends and family.  Dance the weekend away at the pavilion with the DJ.  Be Safe and have a Happy Independence Day.

July 17-19  Miss Lake Gaston Womanless Pageant - Men, gather your supplies and grab your buddies.  Join us for a fabulous annual event.  Wigs, heels and purses are just some of the essential accessories you will need.  Great family fun!  Event takes place at the Saturday DJ dance.

July 24-26  Santa’s At The Lake - Santa is visiting Lake Gaston just in time for Christmas in July.  Hay ride caroling, tree decorating, ornaments and baked goods will bring in the joy of the season.  Site decorating puts everyone in the holiday mood.  Whose site will be the best?

July 31- August 2  Splish/Splash Pool Party - It’s hot out here; cool off with great activities at the pool.  Water volleyball, water basketball, relays, and treasure hunts are just some events that will be held.  You bring the suntan lotion and sunglasses; we will do the rest.

 

August 7-9  Hoe Down Weekend - The wild, wild ‘east’ is calling.  Break out the cowboy hats & boots and join us for a hoe down.  Prizes for best dressed cowboys and cowgirls.  Crafts, dancing and games will all fit into an ‘old west’ good time.

August 14-16  Lake Gaston Idol - Bring the talent, we will supply the judges.  We will have our own Simon, Paula and Randy.  You can sing, dance, tell jokes, or entertain us with your own unique talent.  Age groups will be assigned.  Good old fashioned family fun.  Maybe a “star” will be born.

August 21-23  Back To School - It’s almost time again for school to begin.  Enjoy a fun packed weekend at the lake, swimming, biking, skiing and soaking up the sun.  Back to school usable crafts will be constructed.  Stay up late and dance with your friends.  Sleep in a few more mornings before getting back into your school routine.

August 28-30  Red Neck Weekend - You might be a redneck if…you participate in hilarious, fun activities at Outdoor World.  Country music karaoke, seed spitting, root beer chugging, and much more are just some fun in store for you.  Decorate your site the “redneck” way; prize for the ‘best’ or ‘worst’ decorated site.  Mosey on down to the “club” and kick up your heels, enjoying line dances.

September 4-6  Labor No More - Celebrate Labor Day with NO laboring.  Rest, relax and enjoy the last official weekend  of the summer.  Spend this weekend having fun and forgetting about all the work you need to do.  Enjoy crafts, swimming, boating, cooking out and dancing as we wind down a great summer.

September 11-13  Fun In The Sun - Wakeboarding extravaganza!  Pump up the music, bring a chair and sunglasses for a day full of excitement.  Remember grandma and grandpa this weekend wishing them a happy grandparent’s day.  Call the campground to confirm the Wake Board Event. 252 586 4121

September 18-20  Awesome Autumn - Rest and relaxation are abundant in awesome autumn.  Enjoy fishing, a walk on the trails, coffee on the pier or a good book under the oak tree.

September 25-27  Luau Fall Festival - Annual fall festival wrap-up with a new twist.  Enjoy a fun filled Hawaiian Luau with music,Hawaiian attire, limbo and games.  Dinner  we be consist of NC BBQ  with a tropical flair.  DJ dance wraps up this energized weekend.

October 2-4  Fascinating Flea Markets - Travel to nearby flea markets and antique shops.  Spend the entire day out and about.

October 9-11  History is Alive - Halifax and Warren County hold so much history.  Visit areas that we have researched and mapped out for you.  Great family adventures for all.

October 16-18  Fair Days - The weather is fair and Raleigh hosts the State Fair.  Enjoy the quiet tranquility of the campground or drive to the state capital and enjoy the magnificent NC State Fair.

October 23-25  Camp Terror - Happy Halloween.  Join us if you dare; ghost fill the air on our last weekend together.  Get ready for a nightmare at Outdoor World as you enter Camp Terror.  Fun for all, young and old.  Costume contest, site decorating, pumpkin carving, kids ‘spookarama’ and of course the Haunted House.  Kids can trick or treat at the campground.  Join us for a tasty treat before the popular “Monster Mash” DJ dance.

October 25 - Lake Gaston Outdoor World Closes for the winter season.  We’ve had a most enjoyable season.  Thanks to everyone for your friendship, loyalty and service.  Members and guest will be remembered during the Holiday Season.  From the Staff of Outdoor World we say Be Safe.  See you next year.  Good Tidings To All.
