Theme Weekends 2009

April 11th and 12thEaster – On Saturday, the Easter Bunny will be here hiding eggs and greeting the young and young at heart.  Kids can design their own Easter baskets, and use them for our annual Easter egg hunt!

May 2ndCinco De Mayo – Ole’ Gringos! Enjoy Mexican Train in the Family Lodge, or. take out your frustrations on our piñata. And, today only, play BINGO for only cinco centavos (five cents).

May 9th and 10thMother’s Day – It’s all about Mom this weekend, so don’t forget about yours! Kids make your mother a special gift, complete with a card you design! On Sunday morning, join us for breakfast, where moms will receive a special discount.

May 22nd – 24thMemorial Day –The season officially kicks off with Friday night karaoke and ends on Sunday night with DJ Kim. On Saturday night, making their Ponderosa debut, we proudly welcome Slack Cats! Their motto is “if it isn’t fun, we won’t play it.” Speaking of fun, the weekend will be filled with activities, including carnival games with Rainbow the Clown!    

June 13th—Cosmic Carnival –The aliens return as a Ponderosa tradition
continues. The fun starts out with flying saucer golf. Then join our extra-terrestrial guests as they host you in all your favorite cosmic games: spaceballs, intergalactic shooting range, flying saucer throw, rings of Saturn toss and more!


June 20th and 21st—Father’s Day –Gary Burnett returns to perform Saturday night. Before that, celebrate Dad by spending the day with him. How about starting off with a little exercise by touring our park along our “Walk the Trails” course? Or, call ahead and find out how you can raft the American River, for a discounted rate, just by staying with us. You can design a personalized gift. Or, why not help him fill his tummy by treating him to an ice cream at our social or a meal at our barbecue. Speaking of food, make sure to ask about the breakfast discount for Dads on Sunday morning.


June 27th—Ponderosa Paradise –The greatest discovery in the history of the
state of California occurred a mile and a half away from our preserve. That
discovery was gold, and it changed the region and even the world. Join us as we caravan to Marshall State Park and take in the sights and sounds of Coloma, our historic Gold Rush town. Then, back at the park, take in some local culture as Ponderosa favorite, Lumadae, performs.

July 3rd — 5th—Independence Day – Our country turns a spry 233 years old this weekend. Come celebrate its birthday in style. On Friday night, join a Ponderosa favorite—DJ Vern for his only appearance this season. On Saturday we’ll be bustling about with activities galore, including Rainbow the Clown and her balloon creations. Hungry? We’ll be serving up some fine grub during our barbecue. Then settle in and get ready to rock when Jelly Side Down returns!


July 11th—Wet and Wild – Beat the summertime heat with cool water. Have fun with pool games and slip inside the slip and slide. Or really cool off in the river! Interested in a rafting trip? Ask us how to book one at a discounted rate. Then mellow out to the cool sounds of Aaron Clemens.


July 18th—Western Days – Vic Yeakle of the Country Nuggets returns tonight. Before that, join us for some calf and steer ropin’. Take a western photo, and design your own frame. The whole day will be a shindig of country and western fun. Yee Haw!

 

July 25th—Olympics – Come participate in the second annual Ponderosa Resort Olympiad. Take home a medal in the decathlon, and play games and make crafts with the Olympic rings.

 

August 1st—Hot August Nights – Prepare yourself to be amazed at the hot rods
and classic rides at our second annual Ponderosa car show. And, remember it’s
hot out! So let us do the cooking for you at our weekly Saturday night barbecue.
Then it’s time to work off that meal by dancing, as the Slack Cats return.

August 15th—The King Returns – Last year Elvis stunned the world as he
showed up to perform at the Ponderosa. Well he had such a great time; he has
agreed to return for another exclusive performance! Join the King as he leads
karaoke for a second straight year. Before that get in the Elvis spirit with our “You
Ain’t Nothing But a Hound Dog” dog show.

August 22nd—Back to School – It won’t be long until you have to hit those books again! So enjoy the waning days of summer with us. Try your hand at gold panning or cool off with swimming pool games. Then end your day with our sumptious barbecue and the “feel good” sounds of Uncommon Ground.

 

September 4-6—Luau – We close our activity season with our biggest weekend of all—LUAU!! The festivities begin with Friday night karaoke and end with music and interactive fun as DJ Kim returns Sunday night. In between we’ll have our annual carnival, again featuring Rainbow the Clown. After that the fun continues with our annual Luau dinner, the Halau Hula O Lokalia dancers and live music with Ponderosa favorites, the Buzz Tones.
